I haven't tried compatibility mode yet, though I intend to soon.

Meyers-Jouan Michael, I have tried the ePrint and share 64 bit download, and it loads perfectly and appears to function except that it won't print to the plotter, however it does not error out, just fails to print.
This is not mission critical, just a pain, and needs to be resolved eventually.
How does it relate to drivers?
My solution was to remove all trace of the printer and go to the manufacturers site and download the software and drivers from scratch.
I'm wondering if I can change this policy, but have no idea where the policy is.
I opened Windows Fax and Scan and was able to use the scan driver from there to acquire my images.
It might be worth a try.
I personally had the same issues.
However, I left the other one there as it was a very fast printer.
I noticed one time after that there was an option on the controls to 'scan to a memory device' inserted into the front of the machine.
I did, and it works perfectly now this way.
It's another step, but now it at least works.
Then go to the folder and its there.
Rename and then use it as you wish.

I went to the home page and downloaded a trial copy and found that it worked perfectly although the trial copy puts dollar signs all over the scanned doc.

It was fun, and a good piece of hardware - why no software support is beyond me.
And i will not be buying a new one, 10 years ago i was scanning into my computer my pics - but nowadays with digital pics.
But was using it to scan bills etc, but will give that up.
It works, it's reliable, and everything runs under it.
Vista was so bad, I skipped that.
I'm now thinking of skipping 7.

Michele Anonymous Good people, For whatever it's worth, I got my 4470 c working in W7 32 bit Ultimate by setting Precision Scan Pro to run in Windows 2000 compatibility mode.
You get the 'Do you want this program to make changes blah blah blah' dialogue, but that's a small price to pay for getting the scanner to work.

Before connecting the deviceI installed Xp driver PrecisionScan Pro 3.
Scanner works fine in this mode.
In any caseno slides or negatives scans possible but the rest works.
Not only will Windows 7 not recognize my hp ScanJet 5100C scanner, but I also have to change my settings in order for World Of warcraft to work!
I upgraded to Win7 Ultimate.
Win7 has the scanner drivers in native format install automagicallybut we need the software.

I double-click the file and installed it.
I choose Custom install and I installed only the main scan application and choose not to install the other options.
Next, Next and finalize installation.
I downloaded a third party imaging software for scanning like Irfan view and installed, no tips tricks here — just installed it normally.
Click Select tab and then close the box dialog.

It literally took over my computer, changed the user configurations and so many things that I didn't even find my documents.
I almost had a heart attack.
I uninstalled it and finally I managed to restore my system to two days before and got back my computer.
Now I need the scanner and I don't know how to install the basic features without all the blotware-imaging-zone crap.
I can't remember how I did it before.
Bottom line is they don't want to spend the money to support 'old' products, nor customer support for them.
I told the person on the phone that they had lost a customer.

A 10 year old scanner is like a car that needs leaded gasoline.
The entire tech world has changed too much for that product to remain compatible.
People want new features and functions but then they bitch about change.
For one, 10 year old scanners are all either 16 bit or 32 bit.
New operating systems are being written predominantly to support 64 bit.
Everyone wants higher memory support and other necessary functions.
You cannot hold on to it forever.
You cannot expect current generation hardware and software to be backwards compatible forever and still support the new features and needs of expanded computing power.
At some point, the old hardware only works with old systems.
It is not Microfsoft's fault.
What you are expecting is completely unrealistic!

There's a hotfix included in the downloads.
Other versions will accept a third party software like WmWarePlayer.
It started when I was trying to make my hp 1012 laserjet my work horse lol work with windows 7.
After that I went back to try a similar procedure with my scanner.

Searching around I found the 'Windows Fax and Scanner' software seems to work perfectly with the this scanner.

Instead of IrfanView, I used the software VueScan and everything works fine.
VueScan doesn't necessarily have to be bought, you can use it for a free trial.
Since I just got the software, I don't know if I'll have to pay for it in the future.
But I highly recommend it to anyone else if IrfanView doesn't work.

Weirdly if you hit the button on the front of the scanner it uses the Twain driver to scan the image.
Paperport 14 won't work though.
Now it will import perfectly using Paperport's Scan button.

Many thanks Anonymous Hp Scanjet 4600 software had problems loading on my new hp windows 7 computer and the Hp photo and imaging program would open but was missing the buttons on top.
Windows 7 has a fax and scan program in the start menu that that would work to run the scanner,but still wanted the Hp photo and imaging software to make scan adjustments.
After reading some of the comments here i tried right clicking the program icon on the desktop and went top properties and then compatibility.
The progam now opens with a user account screen to allow the change at startup and the program now works as before on the old xp computer.
The other software from the install disk for the 4600 may have to be changed also, but for now this is all i need!

This year I received a new laptop, a Sony Vaio running Windows Home Premium 64bit with preinstalled genuine license.
I used to work with Professional editions but for home use is really good Home Premium, so I am not going to install something else instead like fake license eg.
There are advantages and I really usually encourage people to have genuine license….
Therefore, I was facing the same problem, but now even more complicated than in the past.
I tried Vue Scanner, Irfan View — Nothing worked!!!!
I installed it on my laptop under Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit and work like a charm!!!

I had no problems printing to a very old 1220C Mfg Date May 2001but my ScanJet 6200C That is at least 5 years newer seems to be a lost cause because of the lack of Win 7 driver problem that everyone else is having problems with.

An add-on to my previous comment: I tried using Windows 7 update to get the driver for my Scanjet 3530c, but the Windows 7 update service didn't admit to anything.
I usually only get once disappointed by a brand and then i never buy a product from this brand again.
Why should we users throw something away just because of a piece of lousy software, if the Hardware still works fine?
